Although we occasionally recruit in other areas - paramedic staff are primarily retained in the London & SE region. Staff within traveling distance of Shepperton Studios are particularly useful as this is where vehicles and equipment are collected from – although we do have ongoing work across London and the South East and have staff who travel direct to jobs from Essex, Kent, Sussex and other Home Counties. We are also interested in hearing from staff in Bristol, where we have an increasing workload.
Location Medical is not a private ambulance company and we have no work that does not require professionally qualified and NHS experienced medical staff.
We are only able to consider applications from State Registered Paramedics or Ambulance Technicians with IHCD qualifications and NHS experience (we will consider overseas equivalents).
We have contacts in most services in London & the Home Counties and will seek our own references for all applications.
The work for medics is varied and interesting with the added bonus that we seldom lift or carry patients and our clients are normally sober and polite!
Ambulance Staff can work as much or as little as they like. We don’t ask for any up front commitment on hours or minimum availability – we simply offer you the work as it comes in (often at short notice) working from availability you give us without commitment. If you fancy it you take it – all we do ask is that, once you agree to a job, you then treat it is a 100% commitment and turn up at the right time and the right place and represent Location Medical in a manner consistent with our reputation as one of the UK’s most established specialists in NHS professional medical staff.
Pay rates are reasonable and a minimum daily rate is paid – even if you are only required for an hour or two. We have been around for over 10 years and always pay our staff on time. Any problems we have with clients not paying is our problem – not yours. Our equipment and vehicles are all modern and well maintained and we are all NHS professionals – so you will never find yourself the only professional amongst a group of ‘first aiders’ or ‘ambulance enthusiasts’! At the end of the day we know you have a choice and we know that professionals don’t tolerate being compromised by poor kit or dangerous working conditions. We are fully insured for medical, employers and 3rd party liability. This is particularly important as it costs a fortune and plenty of small medical outfits are simply not insured – putting you at risk of litigation.
Paramedics can work alone, either with portable equipment in their own car or in our vehicles, or as ambulance crews. You can also travel direct to some locations and venues or meet crew-mates and ambulances on set (where this is closer for you).
We do do 'in shot' ambulance work – so paramedics with a flair for acting get the chance to 'appear' in productions doing what they do best.
In all cases medics are expected to have the confidence to introduce themselves to film crews or event teams and to establish what is happening, where and when on each and every job (this usually involves liaising directly with the stunt team or special effects department). Generally we find that the staff who 'get involved' and avoid sitting in corners reading books etc. are the ones that are asked back by the clients. In particular punctuality, reliability and presentation are important in staff representing us on location.
As well as clinical excellence we pride ourselves on finding staff that are outgoing with excellent communication skills - allowing them to deal effectively and tactfully with all members of crews, artistes and the public. We look for staff who are flexible enough to meet the unique demands of a job that bears little resemblance to NHS ambulance work (basically, be a fish out of water without acting like one!).
We ask all medics to bear in mind that they are being paid to, occasionally, pander to the whims of the clients. You will find yourself being summoned to deal with headaches, cuts, bruises etc. There is no such thing as a time waster on our jobs and medics are employed to treat all medical conditions to the best of their ability - not just hospital cases.
The work is generally 11-12 hour days with occasional night work (paid at time and a half). Although most jobs are one or two days we do occasionally send paramedics away with film units or assign them 1 or 2 week jobs where availability allows.
